Takeaways from Episode 2
Here are the last minute tips you need to master the ACT
Know the ACT format
You will feel much more confident on testing day if you know the format of the ACT—the structure, the timing, the test order, the scoring, even the directions!
Focus on ACT topics covered a lot on the ACT to get you easy points
Know the topics covered the most for each subject test on the ACT. Review these topics that last week before you take the ACT.
Know the timing for each subject tests of the ACT
You should know how much time you should spend on each question of each subject test, each passage, each test. And you should practice using that timing when you practice questions for the ACT. Remember that you don’t want to spend too much time on one question, and never leave an answer blank!
Practice is key
It is important that you practice with official ACT materials. When you practice, it should always simulate how it will be when you are taking the test—quiet environment, sitting at a desk, pencils, calculator, timer to time each test. Also, if you haven’t taken a practice test, you need to do that before you take the actual test!
Remember to use your test-taking strategies
IIf you don’t know the answer or how to answer the question, use your test-taking strategies, like process of elimination, strategic guess, logical reasoning. Always try to giet the answers down to 2 possible answers. Remember, never leave an answer blank!
Review your mistakes
It’s important that you figure out why you missed the problems during practice and then learn how to fix it so that you won’t do it again. You want to see if you’re missing the same concept over and over again—that’s a concept that you really need to review the week before the test!
Manage your stress
If you get anxiety when you even think about taking the ACT, then you need to practice some stress management techniques, like deep breathing, visualization, or mindfulness. You can use these techniques during the test when you feel anxious.
Tips for Test Day
Make sure that you have all of your admission materials, everything you need for the test, and a snack. Know the location of the testing center and how long it will take you to get there. Plan on getting there early. Most importantly, eat a healthy breakfast to get your brain energized.
